The D-Club in Azusa, CA was the spot for Heartless Entertainment’s “The Shindig Vol.1″. It was a night that paid tribute to two great performers in Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. First up was The Vargas Brothers doing their tribute to Johnny Cash with special guest Dawn Shipley playing the part of June Carter. A great set with many of Johnny’s Sun Records hits covered with a few non-Sun Records hits as well.
Next up was the headlining act, Victor Trevino Jr. and His Houndogs doing their tribute to the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley. Again, most of the Sun Records hits were performed with a couple of Elvis’s RCA stuff thrown in for good measure. Victor did a great job of capturing many of Elvis’s movements and the vocals and music were very well done also. Check these guys out if they are ever in your town.
Overall, it was a very solid show that took you back to the early rockabilly and rock n roll days of the Sun Records era. Here are some great shots taken by Roobie complete with vintage grain effects on some pics. Enjoy!
